Coronation Derby Combo
My Mother in Law, Rosemary Pratts, enjoyed the Royal family and all it entailed, especially the pomp and circumstance. She knew how each puzzle piece fit and who was next in line, out of line and well aligned. Alignment matters in the house of the Royals— like chickens, there’s a pecking order.
Anyhow, Rose and Shugaluvs had watched the nuptials of both Charles and Diana, Andrew and Fergie, and Diana’s funeral together. They bonded over many things, but this was definitely in the top 10.
It was of no surprise, then, that Shugaluvs was at the television this morning long before reasonable humans awake to observe the festivities…
The other event she enjoyed was Derby Day. Not sure that anyone in the family knows why she did, but she did, and she did and she did— and we thank you.
Every year the discussion involved the three races that made up the Triple Crown (The Derby, Preakness and Belmont) and she could tell you about every horse from Seabiscuit to Seattle Slew.
My Mother in law would have been ecstatic to have both these events on the same day. Had there been some way to align these on St. Patrick’s Day, there’s no telling what would have happened— she may very well have been the first woman to fly to and walk on Mars. It would be the perfect alignment.
A by product of both these events was my best girl missing her Momma. It’s been ‘double stamp’ day today, and memories of Rosemary Alice Pratts have been thick and plentiful.
The name ROSE is pretty rampant within my crew- Shugaluvs is Susan ROSE, our oldest is Amanda ROSE, and one of our granddaughters is Georgia ROSE…..the legacy of the name is both worthy and well aligned.
As things happen, and things do happen here a lot at our house, I have decided that in honor of both Corona—I mean, Coronation Day and Derby Day, that I make myself a Mint Julep. I went to the garden just a few minutes ago and obtained a sprig of fresh mint, and have the Julep cup getting frosty in the freezer. The bourbon I’m using? FOUR ROSES.
The legacy of the name is both worthy and well aligned.
P.S. My mint julep is tasty! It’s fit for a King.
